Plants have long carried meanings beyond their physical form. Across cultures and traditions, they have been associated with protection, remembrance, love, grief, healing, devotion, transformation, luck, death, renewal, and countless other parts of human experience.
Plant Symbolism explores those relationships.
Rather than treating plants as a fixed dictionary of meanings, this collection looks at the folklore, spiritual traditions, ritual uses, cultural associations, and modern interpretations that have gathered around them over time. Some meanings are ancient. Others developed through folk practice, religion, ceremonial traditions, literature, or modern spirituality. Many have changed as they moved between cultures and generations.
Each plant is approached through two complementary lenses: one that looks at the symbolic traditions surrounding it, and another that explores what those meanings can represent on a more personal and spiritual level.
The goal is not to tell you what a plant must mean.
It is to give you enough history, symbolism, and context to understand the language that has grown around it — and enough space to decide what that language means to you.
Plant symbolism is rarely universal or fixed. The same plant may carry different meanings across cultures, time periods, spiritual systems, or even individual lives. Where possible, Ethereal Roots distinguishes between historical tradition, folklore, later esoteric correspondences, and modern spiritual interpretation.
